This entire list seems a bit like a lost cause with Thom Yorke dropping a new album out of nowhere. That being said, we must persevere and move on (Yorke will be eligible for next week). This week it was all about the relative unknowns. Rather than pick the low-hanging fruit with fantastic new songs from Kendrick Lamar and Weezer, our list was filled with substantially more artists still trying to make a name for themselves and define their sound. Regardless of their respective prowess, each of these songs is incredible in its own right.

Hunter Thompson once said, “Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.” In this day and age, we need and consume music at an astounding pace. Our goal with these lists is not only to satiate your desire for new music, but to provide the right music to accomplish this. Our selection of the 10 best songs of the week is sure to do just that.

This week certainly began with a downhearted stretch, as Grouper and Damien Rice released new songs that were a bit gloomy. Throw into the mix Vince Staple’s new cut about police brutality and you might start to get a bit depressed. But, through all the darkness, some songs did shine through. For instance, Chief Keef let us all know about his 24s and Sweater Beats enhanced Flume and Chet Faker’s “Drop the Game”. Regardless of the atmosphere, this week had a fantastic collection of new songs. Check out the list below and let us know where we went wrong in the comments.

This week was swept up in the major return of Richard D. James and the first new Aphex Twin music in forever. But, if that wasn’t enough to make everyone’s week (or year), we heard fantastic new music from Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar, TV on the Radio, Dornik, and a slew of others. It’s not easy compiling these lists, as some very worthy artists always seem to get left out (see Jessie Ware, Iceage), but that should only work to emphasize how fantastic the songs that made it on here are. Check out this week’s winners and let us know what your feeling are in the comments.

Well, the summer has almost ended. With Labor Day just a few days away, it’s time to accept that the good and the bad of this past summer. The good? Check out the best songs of the last week of summer and share your frustrations in the comment section below.

Let’s cut to the chase: this week had an unholy amount of fantastic new music. This has been a uniformly great week for everyone with this constant stream of new music, but not for the writers who compile this list. They had to narrow it down to just 10 songs, leaving out great music from Run the Jewels, Deafheaven, Clipping., and more. That being said, it should go without saying that these 10 songs selected are top notch, cream out the crop joints that must be listened to. Check out our picks below and let us know how wrong we were in the comments.
